An easy rural drive from the city

We are about 55 kilometres northwest from the centre of Auckland. It's an easy drive of about 50 minutes, more or less whichever way you come, except during the evening commuting hours.

From central Auckland

Drive to the end of the Northwestern Motorway, and turn left to take State Highway 16 towards Kumeu and Helensville. Once you have passed Kumeu-Huapai you are halfway there, and it is straightforward rural driving on a main road. Continue towards Helensville. Just before you reach that town, which at that point lies immediately to your right, on the other side of the river, the road reaches a roundabout. Turn left there towards Parakai and South Kaipara Head. This road becomes South Head Road a little way past Parakai (the village with the commercial hot pools). We are at number 219 South Head Road, on the left hand side, and there is a large yellow sign at the gate. At that point you are about 7kms from Helensville itself, and something over 5kms from the roundabout.

From the North Shore

You can cross the Harbour Bridge and join the Northwestern Motorway, as above. Or, you can take the Northern Motorway and exit from it at what the motorway signs call the Silverdale exit (the exit where the signage directs heavy traffic to leave the motorway). In reality, the Silverdale settlement is a bit further north, but that's the name you'll see on the signage. On leaving the motorway you immediately come to a roundabout. Go hard left (not around the roundabout), as though going back to Albany, and about 300m up that road take a clearly signposted road to the right. This is Pine Valley Road. Go to the far end of it. Then turn right into Kahikatea Flats Road, heading towards Kaukapakapa and Helensville. Drive to the end of this road, and take a left towards Helensville. Drive through the town, and on the far side of it, across the river, you will come to the roundabout on SH16. Drive straight ahead through the roundabout towards Parakai and South Kaipara Head. This road becomes South Head Road a little way past Parakai (the village with the commercial hot pools). We are at number 219 South Head Road, on the left hand side, and there is a large yellow sign at the gate.
