Hibiscus Plants for Sale
Prices vary
We plan to develop our offerings of these plants as time goes by. Our standard price is $15 for a good young plant in a PB12 size. Occasionally we will ask more for those in bigger bags, and more again for new selections as they become available. For those which are registered under the PVR system, most prices are $20. (PVR = Plant Variety Rights) For yet newer cultivars from my own resources, patience is required. Watch this space!. Please enquire further -- you can email us by clicking here.
Hibiscus arnottianus
Wilder's White
This is a species from elevation in Hawaii. Simple white flowers with long pink-red stamens and paler pink veins. Resistant to root rot. Do not prune hard, unlike the hybrids commonly seen in gardens in NZ.
Price: $15
Hibiscus cv. 'Agnes Gault'
Agnes Gault
An older cultivar, vigorous and upright, which has long been proven to do well in northern New Zealand. The satiny pink flowers are produced profusely.
Hibiscus cv. 'Apple Blossom'
Apple Blossom
Russell Fransham looked at this and said his belief was that it was a hybrid between Hibiscus arnottianus
on the left, and some unknown pink cultivar. Whatever it is, it is
exceedingly vigorous, with lots of flowers displayed well on a bush
that will go up to about 4 metres tall if you don't prune it. My
original cutting came from a big bush that grew all over part of the
public telephone box at Tauranga Bay which is just around from the
opening of the Whangaroa Harbour in the far north of NZ, so that's how
I identified it till somebody came up with the right name for it. Then
I met Bob Rivers-Smith, the
hibiscus specialist in NZ. From his copious records he came up with
'Apple Blossom', and this was immediately an appropriate fit.

Hibiscus cv. 'Ben James'
Ben James
One of the favorite clear red forms in our collection. Lots of single flowers in a very attractive light to medium red colour, with a little ruffling on the petal surfaces. Bright and strong.
Price: $15
Hibiscus cv. 'Blueberry Hill'
Blueberry Hill
This is a relatively new hibiscus to NZ. It's probably not going to be as cold tolerant as some of the older forms proven in our conditions. Give it a warm, protected spot. The lavender-blue flowers have red centres. I find that purplish tones are predominant, and to my eye something like 'Boysenberry Patch' might have been a more accurate name!
Price: $15
Hibiscus cv. 'Bright Eyes'
Bright Eyes
A bright medium yellow flower, with a strong red eye, on a medium bush. Reliable.
Price: $15
Hibiscus cv. 'Crown of Bohemia'
Crown of Bohemia
This is an older variety, widely adopted around the world, reliable and relatively hardy. Flowers can be simple as in the picture, but are mostly doubles, dominantly a good gold with red centres.
Price: $15
Hibiscus cv. 'Golden Glow'
Golden Glow
This has unusual colours of cream through mustardy-gold to brown. Very handsome, rather than in-your-face brightness. One of John's favorites. [out of stock]
Price:
Hibiscus cv. 'Harry Boris'
Harry Boris
One of the newer cultivars that have become available in NZ now. (It was bred by Curt Sinclair in Florida, and named after a friend.) It's a small to medium flower in unusual colours- while the centre has quite common red and white hibiscus markings, the main colours are tones in soft orange and lighter browns. Give Harry a nice spot to keep him warm. (PVR registered)
Price: $20
Hibiscus cv. 'Jack'
Jack
'Jack' is another Jack Clark hybrid, bred in Auckland to do well in our conditions. It's a double, with bright orange flowers and some yellow tones.
Price: $15
Hibiscus cv. 'Jim Berry'
Jim Berry
Another modern selection with unusual colours by the standards of those hibiscus we had in NZ in the last century. It's a smallish flower, with the common red and white centre markings, but with most uncommon tan and milk coffee colours over the bulk of the flower. Give him a warm, protected spot. (PVR registered)
Price: $20
Hibiscus cv. 'Macdelveon's Yellow' (syn. 'New Zealand Yellow Hibiscus')
Macdelveon's Yellow
A Jack Clark hybrid (i.e. bred in Auckland by the late Jack Clark) with semidouble, strong mid-yellow flowers on a vigorous, upright bush. Excellent if you want a very clear, strong yellow.
Price: $15
Hibiscus cv. 'Mary Wallace'
Mary Wallace
Gorgeous, strong orange single flowers, edged with yellow. An old favourite for New Zealand, and still available. Individual blooms can be huge- 23 cm (or 9 inches) across at the widest point.
Price: $15
Hibiscus cv. 'Molly Cummings'
Molly Cummings
Much admired and grown by many New Zealanders over the years, this is a lovely, robust, large flowered, glorious example of a strong red hibiscus.
Price: $15
Hibiscus cv. 'Psyche'
Psyche
'Psyche' (pronounced rather like "Sigh-kee") is a beautiful, vibrantly red, small hibiscus flower. The petals recurve, and the petiole is long. This has led to it becoming a classic flower for hair decoration throughout the Pacific.
Price: $15
Hibiscus cv. 'Royal Highness'
Royal Highness
An intriguing flower. It's a large one, pale apricot on the edges, with the colour deepening to orange-red in the centre. One of John's real favourites.
Price: $15
Hibiscus cv. 'The Bride'
The Bride displays lots of creamy white, suffused with pale pink going in to the centre, medium sized blossoms. Quite a vigorous bush. The fabric of her dress (i.e. the petal surface) is intriguingly ruffled. Softly attractive in her prime!
Price: $15
Hibiscus cv. 'Versicolour'
![]()
Versicolour
Another strongly growing, now rather oldfashioned (but none the worse for that!) Fijian hibiscus. Again this one was identified for me by Bob Rivers-Smith. Desirable and floriferous.
